Stanton is a city in Stanton County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Norfolk, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,627 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Stanton County. Both the city and county are named after Edwin McMasters Stanton, secretary of war for president Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War.
