In a criminal case, the state, through a prosecutor, initiates the suit, while in a civil case the victim brings the suit. Persons convicted of a crime may be incarcerated, fined, or both. Criminal defense attorneys represent clients who have been accused of committing a crime, and defend their rights at each stage of a misdemeanor or felony case -- from an arrest to an appeal after conviction. Milford is an unincorporated community in Lassen County, California. It is located on Mill Creek 15 miles (24 km) south of Litchfield, at an elevation of 4222 feet (1287 m). The settlement began when Judson Dakin and J.C. Wemple opened a mill at the site in 1861. The first post office at Milford opened in 1864, and closed for a period during 1879.
