In a criminal case, the state, through a prosecutor, initiates the suit, while in a civil case the victim brings the suit. Persons convicted of a crime may be incarcerated, fined, or both. Criminal defense attorneys represent clients who have been accused of committing a crime, and defend their rights at each stage of a misdemeanor or felony case -- from an arrest to an appeal after conviction. Grand Marais is an unincorporated community in Burt Township, Alger County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located on Lake Superior at 46°40′15″N 85°59′07″W / 46.67083°N 85.98528°W / 46.67083; -85.98528 and is the eastern gateway to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore via H-58. Grand Marais is the northern terminus of M-77. Seney and the Seney National Wildlife Refuge are to the south.
