In a criminal case, the state, through a prosecutor, initiates the suit, while in a civil case the victim brings the suit. Persons convicted of a crime may be incarcerated, fined, or both. Criminal defense attorneys represent clients who have been accused of committing a crime, and defend their rights at each stage of a misdemeanor or felony case -- from an arrest to an appeal after conviction. Audubon is a Borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 9,182. Audubon was formed as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 13, 1905, from portions of Haddon Township. Portions of the borough were taken on July 3, 1947, to form the borough of Audubon Park, based on the results of a referendum held on October 28, 1947. Audubon is the home of three Medal of Honor recipients, the most awarded per capita of any town in the United States: Samuel M. Sampler, Edward Clyde Benfold, and Nelson V. Brittin,. The three are honored by a memorial at Audubon High School.
