In a criminal case, the state, through a prosecutor, initiates the suit, while in a civil case the victim brings the suit. Persons convicted of a crime may be incarcerated, fined, or both. Criminal defense attorneys represent clients who have been accused of committing a crime, and defend their rights at each stage of a misdemeanor or felony case -- from an arrest to an appeal after conviction. West Burlington is a hamlet in the western part of the Town of Burlington in Otsego County, New York. It is located at 42°42′27″N 75°11′16″W / 42.7075°N 75.1877°W / 42.7075; -75.1877, three miles east of the town of Edmeston on New York State Route 51 and New York State Route 80. Most of the roads here are not paved.
