In a criminal case, the state, through a prosecutor, initiates the suit, while in a civil case the victim brings the suit. Persons convicted of a crime may be incarcerated, fined, or both. During her retirement years, Siler City was the home of Frances Bavier (1902–1989) an American actress, best remembered for her role as Aunt Bee on The Andy Griffith Show, a television sitcom in the 1960s set in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina.
