The city's name is a blend (combining the last names of J.W. Paramore and Jay Gould, the owners of the two railroads that originally crossed there). It is believed to be the only city in the world with this name. Paragould is designated a micropolitan area and is also a part of the Jonesboro-Paragould Combined Statistical Area.
