Pippa Passes was incorporated as a Kentucky sixth-class city on July 1, 1983, and is governed by a mayor and city council. As of 2009, the city's mayor is Scott Cornett, who is also the Alice Lloyd College baseball coach. The city's police department operates as a combined unit with the college's security organization.
