Litchfield is a city in and the county seat of Meeker County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 6,562 at the 2000 census. Litchfield is among the largest of a series of "whistle stop" towns built along a railway extending west from Minneapolis in the nineteenth century. U.S. Route 12 follows the rail route, which is still active.
