Iola is a city in Grimes County, Texas, United States. It is about 23 miles (37 km) from Anderson and just over 30 miles (48 km) from Navasota. It has a population of approximately 350. On November 6, 2007, it became the fifth incorporated city in Grimes County after a residential vote. The Iola Independent School District has two campuses - Iola High School (Grades 7-12) and Iola Elementary School (Grades PK-6). NBA player Chris Andersen is from Iola and went to Iola High School. Hometown of J.J. Sajewski former leader of the Fighting Texas Aggie Infantry Band. Home of Yvonne Costello, Police Communications Coordinator, and Sgt. Edward Costello IV, of Texas A&M University.
