Hughson is a city in Stanislaus County, California, United States. It is part of the Modesto Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 3,980 at the 2000 census. Hughson has no stop lights within City Limits. Hughson is surrounded by many types of orchards. It has been a long time farming community. Back when it originated, it was known for its enormous production of peaches. At one time, Hughson held the title of "The Peach Capital of the World". Peaches are no longer the primary crop in the area. Almonds orchards line many of the country roads surrounding Hughson. The almond production in the area is one of the largest in the world. The crops in that area are, but not limited to: Almonds, Peaches, Walnuts, Nectarines, Cherries, Apples, and the occasional vineyards of Grapes. In recent years many orchards have been torn down due to development.
