The village is near the location of Fort Recovery, first established in 1793 under orders from General Anthony Wayne. Fort Recovery was a stop along the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad that connected Pittsburgh to Chicago and St. Louis.
