(a) “Court proceeding” means a civil, criminal, or juvenile proceeding, or a deposition in a civil case filed in a court of record. However, “court proceeding” does not include a small claims proceeding.

(b) “Interpreter” does not include (1) an interpreter qualified under Section 754 of the Evidence Code to interpret for deaf or hearing impaired persons, or (2) an interpreter qualified for administrative hearings or noncourt settings under Article 8 (commencing with Section 11435.05) of Chapter 4.5 of Part 1 of Division 3 of Title 2.
