Collection of preliminary expense

Unless a committed private patient or those legally responsible for the patient’s support offer to settle the amount of the claims, the county auditor of the person’s county of residence shall collect, by action if necessary, the amount of all claims for per diem and expenses that have been approved by the county board of supervisors or the board’s designee and paid by the county as provided under section 225.21. Any amount collected shall be credited to the county treasury.
Unless a committed private patient or those legally responsible for the patient’s support offer to settle the amount of the claims, the department shall collect, by action if necessary, the amount of all claims for per diem and expenses that have been approved by an administrative services organization and paid by the administrative services organization. Any amount collected shall be credited to the behavioral health fund established in section 225A.7.
