Iowa Code § 230.3

If a person’s legal settlement is determined through the county’s central point of coordination process to be in another county of this state, the county making the determination shall certify the determination to the superintendent of the hospital to which the person is admitted or committed. The certification shall be accompanied by a copy of the evidence supporting the determination. Upon receiving the certification, the superintendent shall charge the expenses already incurred and unadjusted, and all future expenses of the person to the county determined to be the county of legal settlement.
