Nothing in this Act shall be construed as depriving any city, village or town situated wholly or partly within the limits of the sanitary district of any power now exercised in the operation of bridges. Any bridge built under the provisions of this Act to supply or replace a public street or highway bridge shall, after the construction of the bridge, be operated and controlled for municipal purposes by the city, village or town within which it is located.
