Sec. 2. (a) A fiscal body of a county or municipality may, by ordinance, establish a regional transportation authority (referred to as "the authority" in this chapter) for the purpose of acquiring, improving, operating, maintaining, financing, and generally supporting a public transportation system that operates within the boundaries of an area designated as a transportation planning district by the Indiana department of transportation. However, only one (1) public transportation authority may be established within an area designated as a transportation planning district by the Indiana department of transportation.
Sec. 2. (b) The ordinance establishing the authority must include an effective date and a name for the authority. Except as provided in subsection (c), the words "regional transportation authority" must be included in the name of the authority.

(c) The words "regional bus authority" must be included in the name of an authority that includes a county having a population of more than four hundred thousand (400,000) but less than seven hundred thousand (700,000).
(c) The words "regional bus authority" must be included in the name of an authority that includes Lake County.
