Sec. 2. As used in this act: (a) "Department" means the department of labor and economic opportunity. (b) "Director" means the director of the department or the director's designee. (c) "Employ" means engage, permit, or allow to work. (d) "Employer" means a person, firm, or corporation that employs a minor, and includes this state or a political subdivision of this state, an agency or instrumentality of this state, and an agent of an employer. (e) "Issuing officer" means the chief administrator of a school district, intermediate school district, public school academy, or nonpublic school, or a person authorized by that chief administrator in writing to act on the chief administrator's behalf. (f) "Minor" means a person under 18 years of age. (g) "Registration system" means the registration system created under section 4b. (h) "Rule" means a rule promulgated under the administrative procedures act of 1969, 1969 PA 306, MCL 24.201 to 24.328.
