N.Y. Educ. Law § 210-a

§ 210-a. Admission requirements for graduate-level teacher and\neducational leader programs. Each institution registered by the\ndepartment with graduate-level teacher and leader education programs\nshall adopt rigorous selection criteria geared to predicting a\ncandidate's academic success in its program, including but not limited\nto, a minimum score on the graduate record examination or a\nsubstantially equivalent admission examination, as determined by the\ninstitution, and achievement of a cumulative grade point average of 3.0\nor higher in the candidate's undergraduate program. Each program may\nexempt no more than fifteen percent of any incoming class of students\nfrom such selection criteria set forth in this section based on a\nstudent's demonstration of potential to positively contribute to the\nteaching profession or other extenuating circumstances pursuant to the\nregulations of the commissioner. A program shall report to the\ndepartment the number of students admitted pursuant to such exemption\nand the selection criteria used for such exemptions.\n
