§ 6505-b. Course work or training in infection control practices.\nEvery dentist, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, podiatrist,\noptometrist and dental hygienist practicing in the state shall, on or\nbefore July first, nineteen hundred ninety-four and every four years\nthereafter, complete course work or training appropriate to the\nprofessional's practice approved by the department regarding infection\ncontrol, which shall include sepsis, and barrier precautions, including\nengineering and work practice controls, in accordance with regulatory\nstandards promulgated by the department, in consultation with the\ndepartment of health, which shall be consistent, as far as appropriate,\nwith such standards adopted by the department of health pursuant to\nsection two hundred thirty-nine of the public health law to prevent the\ntransmission of HIV, HBV, HCV and infections that could lead to sepsis\nin the course of professional practice. Each such professional shall\ndocument to the department at the time of registration commencing with\nthe first registration after July first, nineteen hundred ninety-four\nthat the professional has completed course work or training in\naccordance with this section, provided, however that a professional\nsubject to the provisions of paragraph (f) of subdivision one of section\ntwenty-eight hundred five-k of the public health law shall not be\nrequired to so document. The department shall provide an exemption from\nthis requirement to anyone who requests such an exemption and who (i)\nclearly demonstrates to the department's satisfaction that there would\nbe no need for him or her to complete such course work or training\nbecause of the nature of his or her practice or (ii) that he or she has\ncompleted course work or training deemed by the department to be\nequivalent to the course work or training approved by the department\npursuant to this section. The department shall consult with\norganizations representative of professions, institutions and those with\nexpertise in infection control and HIV, HBV, HCV and infections that\ncould lead to sepsis with respect to the regulatory standards\npromulgated pursuant to this section.\n
§ 6505-b. Course work or training in infection control practices.\nEvery dentist, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, podiatrist,\noptometrist, athletic trainer, and dental hygienist practicing in the\nstate shall, on or before July first, nineteen hundred ninety-four and\nevery four years thereafter, complete course work or training\nappropriate to the professional's practice approved by the department\nregarding infection control, which shall include sepsis, and barrier\nprecautions, including engineering and work practice controls, in\naccordance with regulatory standards promulgated by the department, in\nconsultation with the department of health, which shall be consistent,\nas far as appropriate, with such standards adopted by the department of\nhealth pursuant to section two hundred thirty-nine of the public health\nlaw to prevent the transmission of HIV, HBV, HCV and infections that\ncould lead to sepsis in the course of professional practice. Each such\nprofessional shall document to the department at the time of\nregistration commencing with the first registration after July first,\nnineteen hundred ninety-four that the professional has completed course\nwork or training in accordance with this section, provided, however that\na professional subject to the provisions of paragraph (f) of subdivision\none of section twenty-eight hundred five-k of the public health law\nshall not be required to so document.
