§ 668-c. Awards for Vietnam veterans' children born with Spina Bifida\nenrolled in approved undergraduate or graduate programs at degree\ngranting institutions. * 1. Eligible students. Awards shall be made to\nVietnam veterans' resident children born with Spina Bifida enrolled in\napproved undergraduate or graduate programs at degree granting\ninstitutions. For the purpose of this section, "Vietnam veteran" shall\nmean a person who served in Indochina at any time from the first day of\nNovember, nineteen hundred fifty-five, to and including the seventh day\nof May, nineteen hundred seventy-five and (a) was honorably discharged\nfrom the armed forces of the United States, or (b) has a qualifying\ncondition, as defined in section three hundred fifty of the executive\nlaw, and has received a discharge other than bad conduct or dishonorable\nfrom the armed forces of the United States, or (c) is a discharged LGBT\nveteran, as defined in section three hundred fifty of the executive law,\nand has received a discharge other than bad conduct or dishonorable from\nthe armed forces of the United States; "born with Spina Bifida" shall\nmean a diagnosis at birth of such disease inclusive of all forms,\nmanifestations, complications and associated medical conditions thereof,\nbut shall not include Spina Bifida Occulta. Such diagnosis shall be in\naccordance with the provisions of the federal Spina Bifida program and\nshall be documented by the United States Administration of Veterans'\nAffairs.\n * NB Effective until April 1, 2023\n * 1. Eligible students. Awards shall be made to Vietnam veterans'\nresident children born with Spina Bifida enrolled in approved\nundergraduate or graduate programs at degree granting institutions. For\nthe purpose of this section, "Vietnam veteran" shall mean a person who\nserved in Indochina at any time from the first day of November, nineteen\nhundred fifty-five, to and including the seventh day of May, nineteen\nhundred seventy-five and (a) was honorably discharged from the armed\nforces of the United States, or (b) has a qualifying condition, as\ndefined in section one of the veterans' services law, and has received a\ndischarge other than bad conduct or dishonorable from the armed forces\nof the United States, or (c) is a discharged LGBT veteran, as defined in\nsection one of the veterans' services law, and has received a discharge\nother than bad conduct or dishonorable from the armed forces of the\nUnited States; "born with Spina Bifida" shall mean a diagnosis at birth\nof such disease inclusive of all forms, manifestations, complications\nand associated medical conditions thereof, but shall not include Spina\nBifida Occulta. Such diagnosis shall be in accordance with the\nprovisions of the federal Spina Bifida program and shall be documented\nby the United States Administration of Veterans' Affairs.\n * NB Effective April 1, 2023\n 2. Amount and duration. Every recipient shall receive an annual award\nof four hundred fifty dollars for each of not more than four academic\nyears of undergraduate study or five academic years if a program\nnormally requires five years, as defined by the commissioner pursuant to\narticle thirteen of this chapter.\n
