* § 1200. Statement of legislative findings and purpose. The\nlegislature hereby finds and declares that there exists in New York\nstate a serious need for financial and technical resources to assist\nrenters and property owners to make dwelling units accessible for low\nand moderate income persons with disabilities. Providing assistance with\nthe cost of adapting homes will enable many New Yorkers with\ndisabilities to safely and comfortably continue to, or return to, live\nin their residences instead of residing in an institutional setting.\n * NB Effective until May 15, 2024\n * § 1200. Statement of legislative findings and purpose. The\nlegislature hereby finds and declares that there exists in New York\nstate a serious need for financial and technical resources to assist\nrenters and property owners to make dwelling units accessible for low\nand moderate income persons with disabilities. Providing assistance with\nthe cost of adapting homes will enable many New Yorkers with\ndisabilities to safely and comfortably continue to, or return to, live\nin their residences instead of residing in an institutional setting. The\ndivision of housing and community renewal shall undertake an ongoing\neffort to promote the availability of the access to home programs to all\neligible applicants and persons with eligible properties, as those terms\nare defined under this article, both to encourage participation in the\nprogram and gauge unmet need. Such actions shall include working with\nany other state agencies that provide services to persons with\ndisabilities to promote the access to home programs. Such actions shall\nalso include but are not limited to providing contact and application\ninformation on the website for the division of housing and community\nrenewal for eligible applicants and persons with eligible properties\nwhich shall be updated annually.\n * NB Effective May 15, 2024\n

Providing assistance with the cost of\nadapting homes will enable many New Yorkers with disabilities to safely\nand comfortably continue to, or return to, live in their residences\ninstead of residing in an institutional setting. The division of housing\nand community renewal shall undertake an ongoing effort to promote the\navailability of the access to home programs to all potentially eligible\nlocal administrators to encourage participation in the program. Such\nactions shall include working with any other state agencies that provide\nservices to persons with disabilities to promote the access to home\nprograms. Such actions shall also include but are not limited to\nproviding contact and application information on the website for the\ndivision of housing and community renewal for eligible local\nadministrators and potentially eligible beneficiaries which shall be\nupdated annually.\n
