§ 21. Assistance to other states, the Dominion of Canada, property\nceded to the federal government and to Indian reservations. 1. Whenever\na fire company or fire department in this state shall answer a call to\nfurnish assistance to any political subdivision or territory of another\nstate of the United States or of the Dominion of Canada, or property\nceded to the federal government, the provisions of this chapter shall\napply with respect to the volunteer firemen of such fire company or\ndepartment, while such assistance is being rendered or while going to or\nreturning from the place from where the assistance is to be or was\nrendered, to the same extent and in the same manner as if such service\nhad been rendered in or for the area regularly served by such volunteer\nfiremen; provided, however, that there shall be deducted from any\namounts payable under this chapter any amounts recoverable by or payable\nto any such volunteer fireman under the laws applicable in the political\nsubdivision or territory for which the call for assistance was made.\n 2. The provisions of this chapter shall apply with respect to\nvolunteer firemen of fire departments and fire companies of other states\nof the United States and of the Dominion of Canada who render service in\nthis state in answer to a call for assistance to the territory regularly\nserved by a fire department or fire company described in subdivisions\none to five, inclusive, of section thirty of this chapter and, for the\npurposes of determining liability for benefits under this chapter, any\nsuch volunteer fireman shall be considered as a volunteer member of the\nfire department or fire company of the territory for which service has\nbeen rendered in this state pursuant to a call for assistance; provided\nthat the laws of the state served by such volunteer firemen, fire\ndepartments or fire companies, or of the Dominion of Canada, as the case\nmay be, contain provisions under which benefits are granted in relation\nto volunteer firemen of this state who are killed or injured when\nrendering service in such other states, or the Dominion of Canada, as\nthe case may be, in answer to a call for assistance; provided, however,\nthat there shall be deducted from any amounts payable under the\nprovisions of this chapter to a volunteer fireman of such other states\nor of the Dominion of Canada, any amounts recoverable by or payable to\nsuch volunteer fireman under the laws of the state served by such\nvolunteer fireman or of the Dominion of Canada, as the case may be.\n 3. Whenever a fire company or fire department in this state shall\nanswer a call for assistance to be rendered to any part of an Indian\nreservation the provisions of this chapter shall apply with respect to\nthe volunteer firemen of such fire company or department, while such\nassistance is being rendered or while going to or returning from the\nplace from where the assistance is to be or was rendered, to the same\nextent and in the same manner as if such service had been rendered in or\nfor the area regularly served by such volunteer firemen.\n
