16 U.S.C. § 2611
Section 2611 · Purposes
Amended 1 time on record
Applied in 11 court decisions — leading case Idaho Power Co. v. Idaho Public Utilities Commission (1981)
Most recently applied in Apline Energy, LLC v. Matanuska Electric Association (March 2016)
How often courts cite this section
Court decisions citing this, by year.Markers show enactment, consequential amendments, and circuit splits over this section — watch for a citation surge after a change or a disagreement. The dip in the last several years is a data-coverage gap, not a real trend — our corpus holds fewer opinions from the most recent years, so recent citations are undercounted.
The purposes of this chapter are to encourage—
(1) conservation of energy supplied by electric utilities;
(2) the optimization of the efficiency of use of facilities and resources by electric utilities; and
(3) equitable rates to electric consumers.
