Section 3843 · Terms of certain offices

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 5, 41, 45, and 82 of title 3 of the Canal Zone Code, the term of office of a district judge, magistrate, United States attorney, or United States marshal shall extend for a period of 30 months beginning on October 1, 1979, and any such term shall be subject to such extension of time as may be provided for the disposition of pending cases by agreement between the United States and the Republic of Panama, pursuant to the last sentence of paragraph 7 of Article XI of the Panama Canal Treaty of 1977.

Effective Date

Section 2203(b) of Pub. L. 96–70 provided that: “The provisions of this section [enacting this section] shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act [Sept. 27, 1979].”
