Kirkwood is a town in Broome County, New York, United States. The population was 5,651 at the 2000 census. The town is named after James P. Kirkwood, who was an engineer responsible for constructing the local railroad. The Town of Kirkwood is in the south-central part of the county, southeast of Binghamton, New York.
